Sunnapee Newton Winchester Wellesley stratton Lexington

This addition at the rear of this house was planned as a timber-frame to be compatible with the timber framing in the existing house. The west-facing two-level addition, projecting into the back yard, includes a family room with wrap-around deck at the first floor and a master bath and office at the second floor off of the existing master bedroom. The family room timber frame ties into the existing living room, and the arched stained glass transom windows over the triple divided-lite casements and French doors gives the room a gracious feel. At the second floor, the gambrel roof with shed dormers echoes the gambrel roof at the main house, and the alignment of the eave lines and shingle coursing strengthens the ties between the new and existing structures. The result is an expanded house that meets the functional needs of the clients but still maintains the style of the original house.
